Old Books Now On-line!

I plan on eventually putting up most of my old books here free, letting you enjoy the information just for visiting my site. Stop back often to see what's new!

Stacker An Illustrated Tutorial
Back in the early 1990s, disk compression was a big deal, a new deal, and a necessary deal. It was the dawn of program bloat; files and programs were getting larger faster than hard drive technology could keep up with. The typical PC had an 80 megabyte hard drive. Too small! The software solution was Stacker. This book covers not only Stacker, but hard drive storage as well. If you want to brush up on disks, tracks, sectors, and cylinders, then this material provides some insightful reading. Check it out...

Diskless Archive

The following books have not yet been put into the archive. I am, however, making available the companion disk that was once sold with the book. Refer to each individual book for a description of the disk's contents, as well as instructions on how to use the programs.

Batch Files and Beyond: Your Path to PC Power
This is actually the fourth edition of a book originally titled Advanced MS-DOS Batch File Programming. The files in this archive will apply to any previous edition of the book.

Enhanced Batch File Programming (2nd Edition)
The second edition archive works whether you have the first or second edition of the book. In a nutshell, the archive contains more interesting DOS utilities than the Advanced book's archive, plus a few batch file compiling utilities. Nifty, huh?

Outrageous DR DOS Batch File Programming
A rather rare tome dedicated to the Digital Research version of DOS, which is called dee ar DOS, not "Doctor DOS." Co-authored with Harley Bjelland and available here for anyone who clings to DR DOS, may God help you!

The Concise PC Notebook and Laptop User's Guide
Cool DOS programs for older laptops, if you're interested. Note that many programs are out-of-date and may not be compatible with today's laptops.

MS-DOS to the Max
Most of the DOS programs here pertain directly to the book: a handful of interesting DOS utilities, batch files, plus the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS Wizard programs I wrote. Pretty keen, really.

The PC Upgrade Guide for Everybody
This book didn't have a disk included, but it did have something missing: Chapter 4! Either the original Chapter 4 was cut or just forgotten. I don't know! I lack notes on the topic. All I know is that Chapter 4 has been in the Wambooli archives for years.
